This is a Karaj/Pancham (Ravi Shankar style) sitar features the Golapatta (rose leaf) half-decoration. Made by Barun Ray. The instrument has. monochrome penwork, wood mount upper gourd, 13 taraf (sympathetic) pegs and 7 lotus style main pegs. The bridges are a special synthetic, developed by Barun, that produce a very rich sound. While designated a “Number 2” this is a very high quality instrument well suited to the serious musician. Son of the legendary Hiren Roy, Barun Ray has certainly lived up to his father’s reputation and has furthered the development of the instruments.
